A Word About Our Stones
Our stones and symbols are very natural and holistic. They each carry their own metaphysical meaning and influences upon our lives. Our mother earth offers these beautiful pieces to us to both promote healing and protect us. They are also a beauty to enjoy before our eyes.
Agate (pronounced 'a-git) was highly valued as a amulet in ancient times. It was said to quench thirst and protect against fever. Persian magicians used agate to divert storms. A famous collection of two to four thousand agate bowls which was accumulated by Mithridates, king of Pontus, shows the enthusiasm with which agate was regarded. Agate bowls were also popular in the Byzantine Empire. Collecting agate bowls became common among European royalty during the Renaissance and many museums in Europe, including the Louvre, have spectacular examples.
No gemstone is more creatively striped by Nature than agate, chalcedony quartz that forms in concentric layers in a wide variety of colours and textures. Each individual agate forms by filling a cavity in host rock. As a result, agate is often found as a round nodule, with concentric bands like the rings of a tree trunk. The bands sometimes look like eyes, fanciful scallops, or even a landscape with trees.
Howlite(pronounced how-lite) is a calming stone and can be used to relieve anger and stress of all kinds. It is said that those who are short tempered or get angry fast can keep this stone in the pocket to stay calm. It makes an excellent antidote to insomnia due to an overactive mind. This is an excellent stone for meditation and helps one with reasoning, patience, observation and memory. Howlite is also said to help gain insight into past lives. If placed on the third eye, it opens memories of previous times and lifetimes. It also helps balance calcium levels in the body, aiding absorption and distribution. This gemstone however has low hardness and hence should be handled with care. Also keep this stone away from heat, bright light, acids and solvents.
Onyx is the stone of self control ... it offers vigor, strength, steadfastness and determination. It is a powerful stone for people in recovery when combined with Amethyst. It can also be used to absorb or reflect the negativity of others. It assists in detachment and letting go.
Garnet is the stone of love, passion and devotion. The stone will help you attract like-minded people to you. It provides a connection between the physical and the spiritual.
Turquoise is the Truth Stone. It offers protection, energy, wisdom and serenity. It is known as a Detoxing stone. It also is known to absorb the negativity out of your life. Turquoise challenges us to be honest with ourselves.
Pearls symbolize the best in us. Honesty, purity, wisdom and integrity. They remind us to walk with dignity. White is the color of a pure heart and mind – innocence. Pearls also promote healing, particularly of the stomach and digestive system. They encourage immunity.
